Choosing a Floor:

Carpeting: It is usual in most homes to have carpeting in your bedrooms, the family room or den and the living room. Carpeting is appreciated for its comfort and durability, as well as for its availability in a wide range of colours. Maintenance of your carpet can be a problem and carpeting is often thought to be the source of a number of respiratory allergies. In the past, carpeting was known to stain easily. Today, carpeting is treated against stains and static and is a good flooring option.

Vinyl Flooring: Kitchens, bathrooms and entrance halls are where you would normally find Vinyl tiles or sheet vinyl. Vinyl flooring is affordable and is available in an impressive variety of colours and motifs that often reproduce other forms of floor coverings in very credible ways. They're also easy to install and maintain. One small problem in regards to your Vinyl flooring, if you decide to move the furniture around, you'll probably find the furniture will leave marks on your vinyl floor. If you're planning to install vinyl flooring on a concrete floor, ask your flooring merchant to recommend a product especially designed for that flooring application.

Hardwood Floors: Hardwood floors are generally installed in bedrooms, family/living room, office, dining room and hallways. Hardwood floors never go out of style. They're warm and they can adapt to any style of décor. They can also be stained in order to produce different effects. They're very resistant and require little maintenance. However, you'll need to take the family away for a few days during sanding and the application of the protective varnish. It's therefore important to choose a quality product that won't yellow and will withstand shocks and scratching well. You don't want to have to go through the refinishing process too often!

Laminated Floors: Installing a laminated floor is easy. It works well on concrete and is very stable. Laminated flooring is made of particle board panels covered with a 1/8th in. thick wood veneer. Although it is relatively new in the market place, Laminated floors are gaining in popularity. Laminated floors are made to resemble conventional hardwood floors and are easy to install over existing floors. It resists compression, scratching, abrasives, spike heels, stains and cigarette burns. Laminated flooring is easy to maintain and does not need waxing or stripping.
